The Filipino-American Chamber of Commerce of San Fernando Valley (FACC-SFV) has recently been admitted as the fifth member of the Executive Committee of the Asian American Chamber Association (AACA). The first executive committee meeting was held last May 19, 2009 at the Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Southern California (JCCSC) office in Little Tokyo. The meeting was attended by representatives from JCCSC, Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Los Angeles (CCCLA), Thai Chamber of Commerce. FACC-SFV was represented by Leo Maranan (President), Mary Ann Omega (Secretary), Noel Omega (Advisor and Past President) and Berwyn Salazar (Director).
The results of the 4th Annual AACA FedEx Friendship Golf tournament were presented by the Thai Chamber of Commerce who hosted this year’s event. The highlights are:
- The kick off dinner that was held at the residence of the Consul General of Thailand was sponsored by the Thai consulate at no cost to the Thai Chamber of Commerce;
- 124 golfers participated in the tournament held at the Palms Resort Golf Course in the City of Industry;
- 180 attended the award’s dinner also held at the Palms Resort;
- The financial report is being prepared and will be presented in one of the future meetings; preliminary numbers suggest that the event was break even.
FACC-SFV was selected to host the 5th Annual Friendship Golf Tournament to be held in 2010. The details will be discussed by FACC-SFV’s board during its next meeting and will be announced at a later date.
Also discussed during the AACA Executive Meeting are future events that such as food festival or an Asian American Business Expo. It was suggested that the AACA focus its energy and resources to at least 2 major events a year. The construction of an AACA website was also proposed and will be discussed further via email and on the next meetings.
The CCCLA extended the invitation for other chambers to a sponsoring organization of the FedEx Business Conference Series I to be held on June 5, 2009 at the Pasadena Convention Center. The theme of the event will be “How to Thrive in 2009”. CCCLA also extended the invitation for all the representatives of the member chambers to attend the installation dinner to be held on June 19 at the Empress Pavilion in Chinatown.
The ACCA will be represented by the CCCLA and JCCSC during the 10th anniversary dinner of the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce to be held in Long Beach on May 22. Commemorative plaques will be presented to the Cambodian Chamber during the event. |
