On September 7, 2009, volunteers from the Filipino-American Chamber of Commerce of the San Fernando Valley (FACCSFV), gathered together at the KCAL 9 in Los Angeles to show support and to help out Jerry Lewis 44th Annual Telethon for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).  The goal of this event was to generate the much needed funds to support research and find treatments for MDA and related diseases.

The volunteers were headed by the energetic FACCSFV President Leo Maranan, and his team including: Rick, Em, Sonya, Eleonor, Terry, Chat, Annabel, Susan, and Tessie.  For three hours, the FACCSFV Team took in-bound calls back-to-back from individuals everywhere that donated and funded the MDA cause. 

Contributions will also provide assistance with purchase of equipment such as wheelchairs and leg braces; send thousands of children to MDA summer camp; and support more than 200 MDA clinics across the country.

At the end of the day, the FACCSFV Team was proud to be part of the MDA Telethon.  The 44th MDA Telethon generated a whooping $60.5 million. This accomplishment was amazing considering the downturn state of the nation’s economy.  The Chamber’s participation contributed to achieving this goal.
